The Great Mouse Detective (1986): Basil of Baker Street in Disney History
Explore the 1986 animated mystery and why Basil, Dawson, and Ratigan deserve a place in a Disney film-history collection.
The film and its era
The Great Mouse Detective was released in 1986, presenting a Victorian London mystery with Basil, Dr. Dawson, and Professor Ratigan.
Why its imagery endures
Its detective imagery, distinctive villain, and period setting make the film recognizable even when merchandise is less prominent than for Disney's biggest franchises.
Collector notes
A film-history shelf can include books, physical media, and artwork alongside character figures. Label commemorative releases accurately and avoid inferring rarity from a character's lower visibility.
